LEARNING IN SPACE AND PLACE
It's All About That Space! Key Considerations for Designing Engaging, Inclusive and Effective Learning Spaces

Friends don’t let friends design bad learning spaces! At schools and universities, students learn best through social and active engagement with the instructor, their peers, and ultimately with the built environment around them. We know that both formal and informal learning spaces matter, so how do we go beyond "Pinterest pretty" to create effective learning spaces, designed intentionally to promote engaging experiences and desired learning outcomes? How do we make sure learning spaces are accessible and inclusive to all learners? In this session, we'll explore how learning theory, pedagogy, technology, and space intersect to support active learning, discuss key attributes of effective learning spaces, and we'll share free resources.

INCLUSIVE PRACTICES
Supporting Students Beyond the Pandemic

When courses are converted from a face-to-face to an online or distance learning environment, what can faculty do to construct course components to address students' concerns and better support students' success. Dawn Lundin, MS, RD and Micah Benjamin of Northern Michigan University will discuss with Brett Christie their study on COVID-19’s impact on academic success and how that changed the way that students and faculty viewed the classroom experience.

INCLUSIVE PRACTICES / WORKFORCE
Ethics and Equity in EdTech

Creating inclusive pathways for training and education for underrepresented students means meeting them where they are. It means finding ways to help them complete the goal. At this session, we will be speaking with Kaci Roach, Executive Director for HHW Ohio, about how changing the idea of what higher ed is and who it includes can lead to a more diverse workforce. This includes adjusting the criteria for entrance into programs, the role of instructors and mentors with similar experiences, and how micro-credentialing and certificates can help bolster a feeling of completion.
